Pink and Orange!!!

After going and seeing a wonderful exhibition at "Standen" National Trust last week on some of the designs by Kaffe Fassett I felt inspired by his eye for colour ------- could there be a link with the challenge over on The PaperArtsy Challenge this fortnight?

One of the fabulous pieces on display --- pink and orange figure quite strongly in many of this wall hangings.

Now I have to say they were never up there in my top 3 colour combinations before but now having had a play and seen how they make things 'Pop"out at you I'm definitely warming to them. So below is my entry for the first of 2017's PaperArtsy Challenges titled 'Pink and Orange'.

I began by painting my MDF heart with Very Berry and Autumn Fire. Then once dry added some Blush paint through Lin Browns stencil PS005.

This was then stamped with an image from Lynne Perrella's LPC010 in black ink and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. The words were then added and these came from One Penny 4 stamp set. The edges were heat embossed with Stampendous Aged Silver . Finally a pink leather tie was added to the top.

That's all from me tonight as I've got some pink and orange ink calling me!!

My Craft Art Journal

Good evening and welcome, tonight I would like to share with you the making of my first ever book/journal.

I was very lucky to be chosen as one of the members of Lucy Edmondson's team for PaperArtsy's #3UP, our colour brief was purple, yellow and a dash of blue ---- these perhaps would not be my first to go to set of colours but I like to try new combinations. I had decided to set myself the challenge of starting a new craft of 'bookbinding' and felt this was the opportune moment and as I didn't get around to making a piece for the ' Shiny Things' challenge a few weeks ago made this my theme to follow.

To begin with I painted a piece of A4 white card with Pansy and Plum Fresco Chalk Acrylic mixed with a splash of Dusty Concord Distress Ink. I then added touches of Zesty Zing, Pumpkin Soup, Inky Pool and China.

Then using stencil PS005 I sponged through dusty concord and then brushed over mica powder in perfect pearls and antique gold.

Next it was onto changing the colour of the book canvas and also adding a shimmer--- so I mixed Treasure Gold in Ruby and Sapphire on a tile with a palette knife and spread this onto the canvas, left this to soak in for about 10mins and then buffed up with a piece of kitchen poll and then an old, soft tea-towel.

As you can see there was a dramatic change in colour, but I was thrilled with how it blends in with the card for the cover.

Then it was on to making the signatures, each one was made from 4 pieces of A5-- one sheet of watercolour paper and 3 of 90gsm paper. These were folded in half to make 1 signature and there was a total of 4.

The holes were made with an awl and sewn together with waxed linen thread. The back/spine was given a coat of PVA glue and once dry the ribbon was attached with another coat of glue.

The backing boards and spine were cut to size and the book canvas was then attached with glue.

I then cut the painted card to size and attached to the boards. The inner lining paper was cut to size, the front page was stamped with the pen from LPC030 in watering can and then these and the signatures were glued in place. The book was then left under weighted books over night to dry.

This was a nerve racking time!

The next day I attached the book plate that I'd cut from blue and yellow leather using a Tim Holtz die, the letters ART were cut from card painted in plum and then triple embossed with clear embossing powder. The blue leather is very grainy and I have hi-lighted parts with sapphire treasure gold.

Well I know it has a few minor faults but I am thrilled with how its turned out. I'm now itching to make another and I think family and friends will be getting personalised books for presents this year. I have even persuaded Rob ( Hubby ) to make a book press!!

Paint

Hello and welcome, I hope you are having a restful weekend and perhaps even spending a little time crafting in some way. Today Ive been messing around with paint after being inspired by the PaperArtsy blog --- it's their 3rd topic of the year titled Paint, to view Leandra's opening video click on the link here. This got my creative juices flowing and then I was nudged along by both Sue Carrington and Anneke De Clerck's colour combinations --- I wish I could be as bold with my palate!

I started with a piece of smooth white card the size of a DL card and attached some dry wall tape to the bottom and some grunge paste through a bird stencil.

Once dry I applied Fresco Chalk Acrylic paint starting at the top using the following colours; China and Snowflake then Pumpkin Soup, Tikka and Autumn Fire and finally Toad Hall, Evergreen and Guacamole. This was then knocked back using Snowflake and a dry brush.

The stencil was replaced over the birds and these were painted using Slate. I then randomly stamped the leaves from Flora and Fauna stamp set 3 in Snowflake.

Next I painted a piece of canvas and white card in a mix of Plum and Nougat using a circular motion.

Once dry the canvas was stamped in Versa-fine Black Onyx using the large tulip stamp from ELB03 and the small tulip stamp was stamped in Pumice Stone ink and then brushed with Perfect Pearls mica powder on the card. These were then cut out.

Using a darning needle I then frayed the edges slightly on the canvas tulip.

The leaves were then stamped onto white card using the same stamp set in Versa-magic sage and then over stamped in Bundled Sage to give a 3D appearance.

Using the fence stamp from Jofy 29 and Brushed Corduroy ink I stamped onto white card and then heat embossed with clear powder. Detail was added using the following paints; Toad Hall, Guacamole, Zesty Zing and Snowflake. The end of the card was painted with Beach Hut and Snowflake ready to stamp ' I just wanted to say' on from ECL01 in onyx black.

The picket fence was cut out with a craft knife and the sentiment was edged with a black pen and then over stamped using the same stamp as the background in 2nd generation Peeled Paint ink.

I then decide to mount the artwork onto some cardboard packaging which I painted in Merlin -- ooh yummy colour !

I used PVA glue to stick the card to the cardboard and then attached brads in the 4 corners.

The tulips, leaves etc were attached with Pinflair glue to obtain various depths and dimensions.

I was pleased with the different textures in this project.

And for me this was a bold colour scheme!

Canvas using 'Fragile Papers'

Hi everyone and a very Happy New Year to you, I hope 2015 has started well for you. Today I have made a canvas that was inspired by the PaperArtsy New Challenge over on their blog titled 'Fragile Papers'. To see the DT's wonderful creations and view the video click on the link here.

To begin with I stamped the main image from LPC010 stamp set onto tissue paper using Archival Watering Can and just touching the edges of the stamp with Sepia. Once dry I tore around the edges and then coloured the cheeks from the underside using Distress inks in Worn Lipstick for the centres of the cheeks and Spun Sugar to highlight the skin.

The lips and eyes were coloured using Sakura jellyroll pens in ruby and blue.

Then onto the canvas - for this I used a 5 x 7 inch cotton canvas board. 

I added torn pieces of old dress making patterns and some drywall tape to the top. This was then given a coat of watered down white gesso. 

Next using a fairly dry brush I started to add colour, starting with Fresco Chalk Acrylics in Seaweed and Chutney.

The brush strokes went either up and down the canvas or across not in all directions. Then I introduced 3 other colours- Chartreuse, Autumn Fire and Tikka and these were diagonally across the canvas.

A regal flourish was stamped in Watering Can using the stamp from Crowns and Castle 5.

Then using the border stamp from ECL01 set I stamped the 2 side edges in Brilliance pearlescent olive and then brushed on some Perfect Pearls in perfect pearl. 

The flower was made using vellum for the centre petals and stamped using the 2 flower stamps from the same set ECL01 in watering can and then heat embossing with clear powder. The outside petals were made using Crunchy Waxed Kraft paper which was cut using the grunge flower die and then passing through Craft Concepts Budding Vine embossing folder which had Versa-mark ink on the upper part of the folder. Once embossed it was then brushed with copper mica powder and then scrounged up. 

The leaves were stamped onto copier paper that I had coloured with mica sprays and then scrunged up whist still wet. These are very fragile when you unscrunge them---- and can colour your hands!

The centre of the flower is a wooden button and the ladies head dress was made by crocheting some fine jewellery wire and adding tiny beads as you go along.

Well is great to get back to the craft room after the Christmas and New Year festivities and to start the new year off with such a different type of challenge, thanks PaperArtsy.

Wedding Card with Vellum Flower

Hello, and happy friday to you all. My card today was inspired by mondays entry over on PaperArtsy's Challenge Blog by Keren Baker titled Sky and Grass. I needed to make a wedding card for a work colleague and dear friend but hadn't been able to decide on the design until I saw Keren's vellum flower and leaves and here is the finished card.

I started with a piece of cartridge paper which I coloured with Distress stains, a brush and lots of sprayed water. Once dry I random stamped the wire netting stamp from Jofy 12 in Walnut Stain and then stamped the marriage sentiment from Personal Impressions Love Text by Lindsay Mason in Versa-Mark and embossed with white EP.

The edges were then rolled and inked using Vintage Photo.

The card base was coloured on the edges with Distress Inks in Tumbled Glass, Victorian Velvet, Bundled Sage and Milled Lavender very lightly using brushes. Then the top righthand and the bottom lefthand corners were stamped on versa-mark and clear embossed using the seed head stamp also from the Jofy 12 set.

The flower and leaves were stamped onto some rainbow coloured vellum using versa-mark and white embossing powder. The flower was from PaperArtsy HP1001 stamp set and the leaves from Jofy 12. These were then cut out and curled over a pokey tool.

The flower without the stalk was layered onto of the other one using double-sided foam.

The outer frame was cut using Memory Box Trailing Vine Frame Die from white card.

The mdf heart was given a coat of white gesso before painting with PaperArtsy Fresco Chalk Acrylic in Mermaid. Then once dry a coat of Americana Weathered Wood was applied left to dry and then a top layer of Fresco Chalk Acrylic in Nougat. This was then stamped in walnut stain using a Docrafts stamp.

The tiny cream card tag had the edges coloured with the victorian velvet ink before applying the peel-off numbers---- this being the date of the wedding.

I gathered some cream cotton lace for the back of the heart and threaded 3 pearl beads onto some sewing cotton to attach the tag to the heart. The bow was tied from a length of cream silk wool.

Once everything was stuck in place I then added 3 dots each side of the frame in liquid pearl in bisque and entwined the couples initials in white glitter card and stuck these just to the side of the lace.

It's hard to pick up on camera but you can just see the clear embossed flowers in the 2 corners.

I like the texture this gives to the card base.

I was really pleased with how the vellum flower turned out.

I wanted a non-traditional wedding card  and I feel I've achieved that but with the date and initials it's been made very personal.
